Phoebe Philo returns to fashion after a three-year break, but not as creative director of a major luxury house, but as the owner of her own label under the patronage of the French group LVMH.

After Philo left Celine in 2017 for a highly successful brand reboot, insiders couldn't stop thinking about where she would work next, citing possible creative director positions at Chanel or Alaïa. But the designer has been quietly building her own company.

"I really hope to be in touch with my audience and people around the world again. It's very important for me to be independent, to manage and experiment on my own terms," said Philo in a short statement published on Business of Fashion. - I have had a very constructive and creative working relationship with LVMH over the years. So it is a natural progression for us to work again on a new project." LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault described Philo as 'one of the most talented designers of our time', adding: 'I am delighted to work with Phoebe on her entrepreneurial adventure and wish her great success.

Philo declined to say when her new label will debut, saying only that more details will be available in January 2022. It looks like Phoebe Philo's brand will be launched at another crucial post-crisis moment that could change the mood of the industry. After all, her girlish Chloé was nothing like her Celine, which she infused with a kind of radical maturity. Her proven ability to set the fashion agenda could accelerate a shift away from the maximalism and streetwear focus that has dominated the fashion market in recent years.
