Jeep has confirmed that the new crossover will be called the Commander.

The company has released the first teaser showing the silhouette of the three-row Jeep based on the Compass and separately, its taillights. Although little is visible in the intriguing video, the Commander's familiar seven-slit grille and pronounced shoulder line can be discerned.

At the rear, the model has slim taillights, which will probably be connected by a black stripe. Underneath it is a chrome Jeep badge.

Jeep has confirmed that the crossover will hit the assembly line in Brazil. However, the Commander will be radically different from its predecessor as it is based on the Compass platform rather than the Grand Cherokee.

In the cabin, everything is likely to be like the new Compass: a 10.25-inch digital dashboard as well as 8.4- and 10.1-inch infotainment systems. And, of course, a third-row seat that will turn the Commander into a fully-fledged family car transporter.

The Commander is scheduled to go into production in the second half of this year.
