Løvbjerg

The Løvbjerg chain has roots dating back to the 1920s. Here, grocer Christian Løvbjerg builds a grocery store in the village of Torsted, south of Horsens. His three sons - Carsten, Hans Jørgen and Knud - helped shape the development of self-service shops in Denmark in the 1950s, and in 1959 the family opened Jutland's first supermarket in Silkeborg. As part of a planned generational change, the third generation of the grocery family - Erik and Jan C. Løvbjerg, sons of Carsten Løvbjerg - enters ownership and work with the chain in 1989. Løvbjerg is today Denmark's largest family-owned supermarket chain.
