La Librairie du Boulevard is a self-managed cooperative society. Employees therefore all have the same status, the same salary and the same responsibilities. All decisions are made collectively. 1974 A group of friends plans to take over a kiosk located on Boulevard Georges Favon in order to sell magazines and books that are poorly distributed in Switzerland, to establish a meeting place and to gradually create a bookstore. They create a cooperative and collect the 70,000 francs needed to start this adventure. 1975 Le Kiosque du Boulevard officially opens in February. Three people work there part time. The distribution of small editions and the search for specialized publishers develop, books become more numerous, sources of supply multiply ... 1981 Le Kiosque is too small. The Librairie du Boulevard opens its doors in September, at Boulevard du Pont-d'Arve. The stock then passed the 10,000-pound mark. The turnover progresses regularly, the salary, identical for all, becomes decent. There are now six permanent staff plus one apprentice. 1987 The Librairie du Boulevard is one of the first bookstores in French-speaking Switzerland to be computerized. 1988 The Bookstore receives its leave. The investments made during the installation are lost. 1990 After many steps, the Bookstore moves to rue de Carouge, in a new arcade. This move is made possible thanks to the invaluable help of ALTERNATIVE BANK. The six permanent staff, assisted by two apprentices, share four full-time positions. 1994 Space problems resurface; the 6m2 allocated to office work are no longer sufficient. The Boulevard de Poche was created in the Passage St-François. This office also makes it possible to develop the stock of pocket books. 1997 The stock now exceeds 20,000 titles, the presentation and storage area is no longer expandable. For the convenience of customers and booksellers, we are undertaking research to find a new arcade. 1998 The ideal arcade is finally found, also located in the rue de Carouge, a few steps from the old one. 1999 La Librairie moves in February. 2000 La Librairie celebrates 25 years of activity. The collective increases to 7 people. 2005 La Librairie celebrates its 30th anniversary. 2012 Vote on the Single Price Act - unfortunately not successful. The first person (and last co-founder) is retiring. The bookstore is a collective made up of 6 people. In November publication of the book "The Monday meeting. Self-management applied to the Boulevard Bookstore", published by editions des Sauvages.
