Caza das Vellas Loreto was founded on 7/14/1789, coinciding with the beginning of the French Revolution. This date became so for the house striking and full of symbolism. At the time of its foundation, it received as a working condition the street lighting with two torches lit at night. The metallic torch on the façade is a memory of that. Means such as gas and electricity would only be applied in the capital many years later. The store initially occupied the entire façade of the building, with a vestige of which is the counter inside, whose shape is explained by the cut it received at the end of the 19th century. The commercial facade and shop were then halved. The façade was modernized in 1967 under a project by the architect Samuel Quininha, developed from a sketch by Fred Kradolfer.
