Edizioni Hilkia

OUR HISTORY Hilkia Italia publishing house was founded by Antonio Consorte. Antonio was born in Lucera, in the province of Foggia, on August 15, 1943, from a simple family of direct farmers, the third son of six children, he lived in the countryside, four kilometers from the town. Since he was a child he was educated to make his own contribution to the company's work. Every morning he did some chores and only after completing them could he go to school. After he finished elementary school, his parents - who were practicing Catholics - on the advice of the parish priest, decided to send him to study in the seminary. There he spent a good part of his youth. Meanwhile, due to a tragedy, his older brother passed away. Antonio felt the need to leave his studies to help his family run the company. In 1967, after completing his military service, he emigrated to Canada. Divine providence wanted him to be hosted in Canada by his uncle who had recently converted to the Gospel. After some time he too accepted the Lord and, in October of the same year, he was baptized in water. Later he met his wife and they married in May 1968. From that union two children were born: Salvatore and Assunta Gina. In Montreal he started working at a hospital, but with varying hours because he worked shifts. This allowed him to take advantage of some free time and, so he decided to enroll at the university. He first took a diploma as a psycho-educator, after a university degree in professional nurse and then a diploma in public administration with a specialization in hospital management. Unfortunately, taken up by work and study, he realized that he was not doing enough for the work of the Lord. Because he loved to read, he delighted in studying the Word of God. For this reason he often went to an evangelical bookstore where there was a large selection of Christian books in both English and French. On one of his visits to this library, he first noticed some floppy disks with the program of the Bible in English. He began to do some research to find out if this program also existed in Italian. He contacted many evangelical pastors and bookshops in Italy, but the answer was always: - we don't have it, and we don't know if it exists. At that point, he felt in his heart to buy a computer and a hand scanner. Although he did not have the faintest idea of how they worked, he quickly "devoured" the instruction manuals and began "scanning" the Bible. He got to work right away, but it was very hard because he came home from work very tired around one in the morning and worked on his computer ALL NIGHT until five in the morning. With the help of the Lord, he succeeded; In a reasonable amount of time to send the electronic texts of the Bibles Diodati, Riveduta and Nuova Diodati to the ONLINE BIBLE programmer. In the same year, he also sent several files to Brother Richard Wilson and several other English-speaking Internet sites. He also contacted the managers of -Good News-, in Brindisi and made arrangements for the drafting and compilation of a complete Biblical Key which is currently on sale in all evangelical bookstores. Later he also compiled the Biblical Key of the New Revised, but unfortunately the project failed. After having finished scanning the Biblical commentary Bosio-Stewart-Luzzi, he began to pray asking the Lord to open a door for him. He had been reading and meditating on the Matthew Henry Commentary for some time, and he was very edified. Thus was born the desire to translate it into Italian, but the undertaking seemed very difficult. The more he prayed, the more this desire increased. He then began to seek advice from some responsible brothers, but all hesitated, perhaps thinking that the project was too ambitious. Almost everyone discouraged him and, for this reason, he temporarily put aside this desire and continued to pray to the Lord. After a few months of waiting, convinced that this project was from God, he began to contact some translators and organized several meetings in Italy. Finally, on February 4, 2000, the translation of the first volume of the Matthew Henry commentary began. There were difficulties but the Lord always helped and supported him. After the printing of the first three volumes, another coordination meeting was needed, held in the community of Cento (Fe). Many copies of the first volume of Matthew Henry's commentary were given as a gift to make the product known and, by the grace of God, others were sold at a price that did not cover production costs. When the second volume was printed, however, it received much appreciation and praise from many pastors who also asked for free copies. This left him very perplexed and disappointed because the sales were not enough to "cover" the costs. Despite the difficulties he continued by faith to obey the Lord's command, thus relieving that weight that the Lord had placed in his heart. Many years have passed and thank God, to date the translations of many works in digital format available in the Hilkia Electronic Library have been completed and, most of them are also available in paper format. The Hilkia team honors and thanks the Lord as we are sure that a void has been filled in the Italian language evangelical literature. There are many readers who pray for this mission and also support it with purchases. To date, works of great importance have been published which are tools that help the spiritual growth and edification of believers. Other important works are in the works which with God's help and blessing will see the light in the near future. We also inform readers that in the near future, all our works will be available on Android applications and in a second time IPAD. We rely on your prayers so that the Lord can continue to bless us. We trust in word of mouth, in sharing links and in your purchases.
