From the construction business to “The Small Department Store” with general goods, including toys and housewares, we are now the specialist shop in Zella-Mehlis for paints, wallpapers, sun protection and accessories. The Engel family, originally based in Brotterode, ran a construction business there. However, due to inflation, business became more and more difficult and a new location was looked for. The family finally found what they were looking for in Zella-Mehlis in the mid-1930s and set up their new shop. After the Second World War, the order situation turned out to be difficult. When there was little money available for food and everyday things, how should wallpaper and paint be financed? Without further ado, the shop was converted into an exchange center for and the goods were stored for a small fee. In the 1950s the situation gradually improved and the store regained the character of a paint shop. Negotiations with the consumer society at the time enabled various everyday items to be sold during the GDR era, thus offering a wide range of items. The shop with expertise in the field of paints, wallpapers and sun protection is also available for you with advice and action.
