The Fressnapf story At the end of the 1980s, after a trip to the USA and a visit to the super pet stores there, Torsten Toeller had the idea of opening a specialist discounter for animals in Germany. The then 24-year-old took his luck in hand and opened the very first “Fressnapf” store on January 18, 1990 in Erkelenz, North Rhine-Westphalia. A move that almost ruined him. Customers stayed away and complained about the selection and prices. Toeller's reaction was down-to-earth: he sold his car, doubled the range, and cut prices in half. It worked: a short time later Toeller had multiplied its sales and thus laid the foundation for today's Fressnapf Holding SE. The company opened its first franchise stores back in 1992, followed by hundreds of new stores in Germany over the years. The first Fressnapf store was launched in Austria in 1997, followed by locations in Switzerland and Luxembourg in 1998 and 1999. In 2009, the 1,000 store in Europe was opened (in Munich) and the online shop was launched. In 2012 Poland was welcomed as the newest country in the Fressnapf Group. The Fressnapf brands have also grown steadily, so that today there are 18 exclusive Fressnapf brands in different price segments. In 2015 the Fressnapf Group celebrated its 30th anniversary. Fressnapf Switzerland Fressnapf Switzerland was founded in 1998 (the first branch was opened in Bachenbülach) and currently has 58 branches. Around 30 more openings at customer-friendly locations are planned. As a company, Fressnapf attaches great importance to a professional and familiar culture. The goal of Fressnapf Switzerland is to offer all pet owners a wide range of branded items at the best prices. All of this in a customer- and animal-friendly environment with expert advice. In other words, we want to be the point of contact for everything to do with animals and animal husbandry. This is how we promote happiness between animal lovers and their animals. We support animal shelters and animal welfare organizations that promote the relationship between humans and animals. Our commitment is rounded off by numerous donations in kind and feed. This is not only lived in the branches, but also in the headquarters in Dietikon. Because every employee is allowed to take their dog to work.
