More than 140 years of history accompany the Gutteridge brand, a historical Anglo-Neapolitan brand that embodies a fascinating mix of tradition and sartorial craftsmanship, unique values that characterize a brand with timeless elegance. In 1878, in the heart of a post-Unitarian Naples, between the books of Matilde Serao, among whose protagonists is also a boutique salesman, and the great urban works of the then mayor Nicola Amore, the Scotsman Michael Gutteridge began a flourishing trade. fine fabric import thanks to a profitable business arrangement with father-in-law, at the time one of the major textile producers in Scotland. Starting from a small shop in Piazza Dante, Michael Gutteridge soon inaugurates a second commercial space within the historic Palazzo Zevallos in Stigliano, a monumental work of the architect Cosimo Fanzago, located in the lively and very central Via Toledo. Thanks to the prestige of this location and the particularity of the commercial format, which could be compared to a modern department store, Gutteridge was so successful that it had more than 100 resources, used only in mail order sales, since this success was not only in Naples and Italy, but throughout Europe! With such a prestigious historical record, Gutteridge has maintained its notoriety, becoming a Neapolitan institution, until its acquisition by the Capri Group which, in 1997, took over local historians at the Palazzo Zevallos in Stigliano, within which is located the last Caravaggio, he also took over the brand and reinvented it into a new retail concept, keeping its historical identity intact.
