Donald Hillsdon Ryan, an American, walked with his wife in 1957 on the Brussels Grand-Place where she broke her stiletto heel on the cobblestones. He hatched a plan to open shops where shoe repairs could be carried out immediately for a rushed clientele. The concept of the minute service was born.
