Papelería Ferrer

If you are interested in old and curious stories about Seville and its people, you will like to know how the oldest stationery in Spain and one of the three oldest in Europe was founded. The story of the Ferrer Stationery begins with a ship that sailed and a couple that lost it. In 1856, a young couple from Capellades (Barcelona) called José Ferrer y Poch and Josefa Vidal y Fragoso arrived in Seville to embark for Cádiz and head to America in order to set up a stationery business there, since their families are engaged in paper handling. The ship had just set sail and the next one would take 6 months to leave, so they decide to rent a small place on Calle Sierpes selling paper, ink, pens and packing rope to survive until the departure of the next ship. But what began as a temporary establishment ended up becoming a prosperous business, and thus they found in the heart of Seville the America of the opportunities they were looking for. The business passed to his son Federico Ferrer, then to his sons Adolfo and Manuel Ferrer and now, to Manuel's daughters, Mª del Carmen and Estrella Ferrer, who together with their sons Alberto and Lucía, great-great-grandsons of the founders, continue with this trade dedicated to the retail sale of writing, diaries, stamps, paper of all kinds, technical, artistic, school, office supplies, crafts, photo albums, singular objects, gifts and a myriad of traditional articles and classics, such as trading cards, cutouts, inkwells, bird feathers, hygrometers, ex-libris, etc. Ferrer Stationery has been in the profession for more than 160 years. Considered the oldest stationery in Spain and the third oldest in Europe, it has had among its clients illustrious Sevillian artists such as the Álvarez Quintero brothers, the sculptor Antonio Susillo, Gonzalo de Bilbao or the Catalan dancer Carmen Amaya. Thanks to you, our illusion remains intact for generations and it would be our wish to continue for many more years.
