A pet needs us and take care of it, and in return it fills us with love. Precisely for this reason, having pets is good for our health: they make us more positive, make us feel good about ourselves and help reduce stress. Having an animal at home is a great commitment, which requires attention and perseverance: you have to make sure that it is vaccinated, healthy and well fed. If it is a dog, we must find time to take it for a walk; if it is a cat, it must have a suitable environment to feel comfortable. Not to mention the needs of rodents, birds or fish. However, the effort involved in having animals is nothing compared to the benefits it brings to our health, both physical and mental. It is scientifically proven that stroking an animal makes us relax and soothes. And if we feel less anxious, we certainly won't resort to harmful substances to decrease anxiety. Animals also increase our self-esteem: they make us feel loved and no longer alone. There is nothing more comforting than coming back from work and knowing that our little dog will jump for joy as soon as he sees us cross the threshold of the house. Furthermore, having a dog in the house forces us to take it for a walk. Is this a great reason to go for a walk and keep fit? If you are trying to lose weight, walking or running your dog is a great physical activity.
