Scaramagli Vini e Liquori

A man of great passion, spontaneous, open and friendly, Giorgio Scaramagli is no longer with us, but Bologna cannot forget him. Go to Strada Maggiore, stop at 31, look and read Scaramagli since 1912. The phrase "A name, a trust" has never been truer. Bolognese, born in 1925, married to Marta (with whom he had two daughters, Elisa and Silvia), Giorgio entered the grocery store of his father Alberto, the founder, the legendary shop on Strada Maggiore. He was 19 and had a challenge in mind: to continue the tradition of the "typical" grocery store while giving something more. After replacing his father, Giorgio began to specialize in the wine industry. "He tried to import special wines," recalls his daughter Elisa. He went to France, Scotland, England, Spain, traveling to Europe in search of specialties. A continuous search for quality, of what others did not have. And he did it not so much because he liked it, as for his customers (with a capital c). "He gave particular attention to the service, which had to be widespread" - explains the daughter - For each customer there was a multi-expert shopkeeper (the grocery store grew to 30 employees). He trained the staff. What he cared about the most was the relationship with the client. "He advised him, guided him in his choice. Often they became friends." My father - Elisa recalls - said it was hard work, only for men, he didn't insist on making us, his daughters, work with him. But for Christmas my sister and I went to help him. It was fun. We lived in the shop. He wanted to please everyone. We were late in the evening. Then, on Christmas Eve, at 10 pm, after he had been reported missing, he would get up buried by the parcels, and exclaimed: "This Christmas is over too!" Today Cavazzoni Franco and his wife continue the Scaramagli tradition with an ever-expanding variety of products. 2813 different wines, 112 sparkling wines and champagnes, 275 types of whiskey, 268 grappas, 100 bitters, 45 types of brandy, 95 types of rum. These numbers give an idea of the vastness of the range of products, but by visiting the shop you will discover that the food and wine proposals are truly innumerable.
