Spine Bookstore is an itinerant and interactive bookstore dedicated to independent publishing, self-publishing and illustrated books that collects illustrated books, magazines, graphic novels and comics, limited edition art editions, artisan publishing productions, fanzines. , photobooks, silk-screened author prints, editions for children and a wide range of sophisticated audiovisual products. A precious material coming not only from the cultural ferment made in Italy, but also from a vast overview of hard-to-find foreign-made material. The goal is to introduce a wide public to a type of quality publishing, which is aimed not only at operators in the sector, but also at all the curious who want to touch author books and editorial news first-hand, to learn more about its history and the challenge hidden behind each page browsed. The Spine cultural association is based in Bari and is a 360-degree contamination space that welcomes educational workshops for adults and children, exhibitions, meetings with the author, book presentations, live performances and workshops. The idea of setting up the SPINE cultural association stems from the desire to continue and pursue the experience held in Bari in December 2014. The zero test was the setting up of a temporary one-month bookstore, located in the historic center of the city of Bari, where, in addition to the sale and display of the previously sought material, a large number of meetings with authors, presentations of editorial news, workshops and themed evenings with guests from all over the world were held National territory. Inside the store hundreds of people gathered who enthusiastically welcomed the initiative, making the environment an intimate and welcoming area in which to spend time, view material and share experiences and knowledge. The unexpected success of the activity led the proposing organizers to conceive a place in the city of Bari that could once again become a point of reference and exchange in a stable manner. The group works by organizing, within the space, thematic areas related to the reference publishing sectors. The publications range from self-productions related to the art of photography and, last but not least, to the photographic literature produced for the world linked to childhood. The sector linked to illustrated publishing is represented not only through the best publications of small and medium-sized editorial excellence present on the international territory, but great attention is also paid to the selection of prints and productions by independent authors or artistic studies and to self-productions sought on entire national scale. The thematic area dedicated to foreign productions boasts material from America, France, Slovenia, Spain and Holland characterized by refinement and avant-garde. An integral part of the association's path is to combine dissemination with the possibility of in-depth analysis and information linked to the issues of the publishing dealt with, from the contents to the container. In this sense, the group aims to support and organize meeting opportunities by hosting authors, publishers and printers from all over Italy and promoting with them entertainment activities related to illustrative practice in all its forms.
